G AND T COFFEE SHOP
G and T Coffee Shop is owned and run by a delightful Italian couple, Ilaria Giovannini and Marco Tassone. Full of smiles and passion, it’s a very pleasant experience popping into their organic shop and coffee house.
They strive to care for the environment and support small independent producers that grow organic food in a sustainable way. Ilaria and Marco are both vegan and stock a large variety of food that you would be hard pushed to find elsewhere. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, this could be your new favourite place!
Their passion and knowledge extends way beyond the food. They love coffee and their menu is one of the best I’ve seen. The house blend on offer is Union Hand Roasted, and the current guest blend is Has Bean ‘Jail Break”. They use a Rancilio Xcelsius espresso machine, which allows you to vary the temperature during extraction – an innovation that gives you a lot more control over the end product.
As Ilaria hails from Milan, and Marco from Turin, I went for an espresso, the norm in Italy. Like everything else about the shop, it was fantastic – so good I decided to purchase some beans to take home. Upon Ilaria and Marco’s recommendation, I bought a Brazilian coffee from Union (they’ve had the pleasure of meeting the farmer!), which was exquisite.
G and T coffee shop is a special place and while it is slightly on the small side, its character and charm more than make up for that. PS. They’re currently showcasing art by Riccardo Cellottini. His exhibition focuses on nuclear power plants, highlighting issues of sustainability and the environment. Some food for thought…
