Coffee & (Water)?

WATER. THE SIMPLE TRUTH

This is pretty random, but I think it might be a common thought shared by many other fellow coffee lovers: having tap water served with your coffee in a cafe really enhances the experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I can happily sit in a coffee shop and enjoy my coffee regardless, but if I am presented with a glass of water to accompany it, this definitely puts a smile on my face. It’s such a simple thing, but I really do believe it makes a difference and I’m not sure why all coffee shops don’t do it.

As far as I am aware, out of the big chains operating in the UK, Caffe Nero is the only one that offers free water to help yourself to and it seems to be very popular. In the current economic climate, many people don’t want to buy a whole bottle of mineral water but would really appreciate a glass of water to hydrate any parched mouths. So if any cafe owners of managers are reading this, please give my proposal some thought:

Serving tap water with coffee should be rule of thumb.

The idea for this post just popped into my head as I was handed a glass and what appears to be an old milk bottle full of water to accompany my double espresso at Ozone Coffee Roasters….Bliss.

You’re so right on this one Henry. In fact, I’d go further and say that if (like you and me) you’re drinking espresso, a glass of tap water is essential to get that full espresso experience. I always insist on a glass of tap water when I order my espresso, but it puts a real smile on my face if I’m offered one without having to ask.

Love the blog by the way. Keep up the good work.

    Brian.

Hi Brian. I’m glad we’re on the same page! I just checked out your blog too, right back at you! I noticed on your ‘about’ page that you’re from Guildford. A good friend of mine lives there too and is looking for a good place to pick up some coffee beans, do you know a place?

      Brian,

Thanks for the info. I’ll pass all of that on to my friend who I’m sure will be very appreciative!

      Kind regards,

      Henry
